Day Date

So, I went on a first date today for ice cream. Sounds romantic right? Wrong.
It was weird and awkward.

It was with a guy from work who is so funny and flirty and full of banter on a usual day, but just did not live up to expectations.

He also turned out to be a little too nice. And not as much fun outside of work.

Just the phrase "Day Date" doesn't bode well if it is the first date.

And here are the following reasons:

1. There is no romantic or dim lighting to ensure you both look beautiful

2. No alcohol involved to loosen minds or limbs

3. Conversation can lull and one, or both, parties feel the need to talk. This annoys me.

4. There's not really any excuse to leave early, ie. No last train or bus to catch

5. You gradually change your mind about your date and find yourself dropping big hints as to the level of your future relationship

6. You have to find numerous things to do as one is quite simply not enough, apparently chatting in the sunshine is not enough

7. Your date may think it is OK to wear shorts. It.is.never.OK.to.wear.shorts.on.a.first.date.EVER.

8. You may find that your date isn't as open to different experiences, ie. a Chinese bakery, as they have made out to be

9. Your date may end with you fancying this person less than when you first met them. Oh dear.

10. You find the you pick out all the bad things straight away, Oh dear indeed.

And that is all for now...any more input on why we don't do Day Dates would be well received.

Reminder to self. be wary of first dates that happen during the day. Not a great start.

  1. you're always going to struggle, if you have rules like 'its never okay to wear shorts on a first date'. if its a hot day and the date is 'going for ice-cream', then shorts ia a no-brainer. but as with anything, it all depends on the style. if they are TOO short, then NO. if they are jeans that have been cut into shorts, then NO! etc etc...

  3. I had a date that consisted of "ice cream" only to find out later we didnt even go for ice cream, we just sat on the grass and i felt like i was getting an interview, and then things went way to fast, I think he was racing a cheeta while he was getting to know me....ugh ice cream dates suck lol
nice post, hope that another awesome date, less dull will come your way =]

  4. hmmmm...were the 'what look like swimming shorts' actually swimming shorts, or were they 'boardies'? swimming shorts are reserved for people over 40. boardies on the other hand have become very fashionable. as well as that it depends on what he wore with them? some funky flip flops or cool trainers are okay - socks and sandels are a crime.

btw, dont feel like im having a go at you. im only trying help as the weather is getting very nice and I can see many of your future dates being 'day dates' that involve ur man wearing shorts. :D

  5. They were not boardies, I can assure you. I have spent a holiday or two around surfers and these shorts were most definitely the "only reserved for the beach" kind of shorts. Never mind eh!!

The advice, of course is much appreciated :) Anything else you've got I would be a willing recipient of!!

And why the mysterious blog young man??
